A woman has been arrested for practicing prostitution at a spa in Irondequoit.
Officers say they received a tip that prostitution was occurring at a spa located off Ridge Road in the Town of Irondequoit. After getting the tip, they launched an undercover investigation.
As a result, police arrested a 52-year-old woman. She was charged with prostitution and unauthorized practice for not having a massage license. News 8 is working to learn more about the circumstances of her employment with the spa.
Zhang was arraigned and sent to Monroe County Jail on $500 bail. She will return to court in March.
Police say they are still investigating if the spa is part of a larger ring and the role of human trafficking in the case.
Prostitution at spas has been in the headlines as of late following the arrest of Patriots owner Robert Kraft after a sex trafficking sting at a Florida spa.
Last month, a group of lawmakers pushed legislation that would decriminalize prostitution in New York to allow more resources to protect sex workers. Two related bills are currently in committee in the Senate.
