Rochester Hope for Pets will host its annual tasting gala Wine, Spirits, Hops & Hope on Friday, October 7 at Locust Hill Country Club.
Lindsay Lavell of Rochester Hope for Pets and Liz Kirchner, a Licensed Veterinary Technician, discussed Hope for Pets and the event Friday on News 8 at Noon.
“At Rochester Hope for Pets our overall mission is to improve the quality of life for pets in the Rochester area,” said Lavell. “Primarily we do that through veterinary grants towards life saving procedures, but one of the other ways we focus on improving their lives is through education. Duncan’s Fund for Education was actually created with the hope that through advanced knowledge and technology, veterinary professionals in the area could provide the utmost care for our area’s pets. Stanley here is one of the benefits of Duncan’s Fund. He was provided to us through that fund.”
Kirchner said Stanley is a mannequin used to demonstrate CPR. “We actually go through and teach first responders – so our firefighters, EMT’s and paramedics – how to perform CPR on Stanley,” she said. “That can help us in a multitude of ways with car accidents with pets in the cars or house fires, and kind of how the first responders can actually help to get those patients safely to us.”
