After you vote for your chosen candidates next Tuesday, be sure to flip over the ballot. Otherwise, you’ll miss out on casting a vote for three significant statewide propositions.
News 8 has already explored the impact of a Constitutional Convention, which is the first proposition. If established, it would set up a multi-year and multi-vote process to reform the laws we live by.
Proposal number two is one that’s been talked about for some time, but more to the point. It would allow a court to strip state lawmakers and local public officials of their pensions if convicted of a felony.
If passed, it would only apply to crimes committed after January 1st, 2018.
A third proposal, doesn’t directly apply to our area, but affects the Adirondack and Catskill regions of New York.
It’s a vote ot set up a land bank with 250 acres of forest preserve land that municipalities can dip into to address infrastructure safety. This would allow for changes to bridges and road hazards, along with the relocation of certain highways.
