A Wayne County 911 dispatcher is being praised after she helped deliver a baby early Wednesday morning.
Dispatcher Sarah Wood received a call just before 4:30 a.m. from a woman in Arcadia who was in labor. Wood gave the woman instructions and a few minutes later she delivered a baby girl, according to the Wayne County 911 Center.
“Dispatcher-assisted child births are rare in Wayne County, with only a very small number happening each year. All dispatchers in Wayne County are trained to National and International Academies of Emergency Dispatch standard and are certified as Emergency Medical Dispatchers, prepared to respond when needed,” states a press release from the Wayne County 911 Center.
The mother and newborn were eventually taken to the hospital by ambulance.
