A Walworth man was arrested on February 8 after a five month investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit and the Wayne Narcotics Enforcement Team.
Mark Hopkins, 62, was arrested for the unlawful sale of untaxed cigarettes and the unlawful possession of weapons. He was charged with eight counts of Unlawful Sale and Possession of Untaxed Cigarettes and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.
Police say a search warrant was served at an address on Waterford Road in Walworth on February 8, 2017. During the search, police seized numerous cartons of untaxed cigarettes, several unlawfully possessed assault rifles and a large capacity ammunition magazines were seized.
Due to the known and suspected weapons involved, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and WayneNET members were assisted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s Bomb Squad and members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives.
Hopkins was arraigned in the Town of Walworth Justice Court on the above listed charges. Hopkins was release on his own recognizance and is to appear back in the Walworth Town Court on April 5 at 6:00 p.m.
