UR doctor accused of rape files countersuit against accuser

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - The University of Rochester doctor, accused of rape in a lawsuit filed earlier this month by a former student, has filed a countersuit against his accuser.

In the lawsuit, Dr. Johan Blickman is accused of drugging and raping Katia Kaplan-List. Kaplan-List claims Blickman also blackmailed her, using lewd photos he took, to keep her from going to police and to force her into subsequent sexual encounters. In the court papers, she says he also threatened to ruin her career if she reported him. Kaplan-List also says Blickman made other strange request during subsequent sexual encounters.

Aside from the sexual allegations, Kaplan-List says Blickman also attempted to recruit her boyfriend in a plot to kill Blickman's ex-wife.

But, in his lawsuit, Blickman says those claims are "lies." In the new lawsuit, Blickman says he and Kaplan-List were involved in a consensual sexual relationship over the course of a year and a half.

Blickman says, after the relationship ended, Kaplan-List filed a complaint with the University of Rochester. But, after an investigation, he says college officials deemed the relationship was consensual. Blickman says Kaplan-List failed to appeal the decision.

Earlier this month, after Kaplan-List's lawsuit became public, the University of Rochester confirmed in a statement they had investigated the "inappropriate relationship" and took action. However, the school said the new lawsuit by Kaplan-List contained "new and different allegations" against Blickman.

Now, in his suit, Blickman is asking for a total of $60 million in damages for the allegations made by Kaplan-List. In her lawsuit, Kaplan-List seeks $30 million.
