UR dancers hold final performances for project that paired students with seniors

Local News

Moving Memories, a partnership with students from the University of Rochester and senior citizens, brings lives lived to the stage.

The program pairs dancers at the U of R with residents at Episcopal Senior Life Communities to create choreographed dance routines.

The performances represented a significant memory in an elder’s past and represent the importance of history. Students met with the seniors once a week for the semester-long program which culminated in a final performance Monday morning.

“And it brought out our creativity,” explains Michaela Pratt, U of R student. “Senior citizens, you know, you think that’s ok — been there, done that. But it made us think and recall memories from the past and what it was like when we were young and that was a nice experience.”

Moving Memories included seven senior participants and six student dancers.
