Two people have been taken into custody on Dewey Avenue Thursday morning. News 8 crews saw and man and woman put in handcuffs by police.
Early Thursday, Rochester Police officers surrounded 1093 Dewey Avenue for a possible barricaded gunman.
Police on scene could be heard ordering someone to come out of the building with their hands up.
RPD warned the public to avoid Dewey Avenue between Flower City Park and Driving Park at the time. Some cell phones in Rochester did receive a 911 alert telling them to stay indoors.
Deputy Police Chief Scott Peters says this all started on the city’s east side. He says a man made threats against his ex-girlfriend in this incident of domestic violence. Some of the threats made involved a gun. At that point, Peters says SWAT was called in to confront the man at the home on Dewey Avenue. The man did then surrender and was taken into custody. A woman was also taken into custody from the home.
29-year-old Edwin Perez was arrested and charged with Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree and Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd degree
