This surveillance video shows 58-year-old James Shaw entering the Motel 6 on Buell road in Gates. That’s the last time Shaw would be seen alive.
“We see Shaw walking in with an unknown individual, and Mr. Shaw would never exit, but this individual is seen leaving with property of Mr. Shaw’s,” said investigator Joshua Bowman, with Gates police.
Despite having the suspect’s face on camera, police have not been able to track down the man they believe is responsible for Shaw’s death. The suspect walks in with Shaw, walks out several hours later, alone, and carrying Shaw’s computer, other electronics, and takes off in his car. Investigators have continued to plead with the public for answers, even four years later, hoping that they can get some kind of a break in the case.
“Mr. Shaw would frequent the adult book store on state street, and he’d bring men back to his hotel room and they would hang out for a few hours and subsequently leave,” said Bowman.
Investigators say, Shaw frequently brought people back to that Motel 6.
“He would hang out with unknown individuals, he would go out and look for people to be his friend and bring them back to the motel with him, these numbers weren’t stored in his cell phone which makes it hard to track down this individuals,” said Bowman.
By giving the public more insight into Shaw’s lifestyle, police are hoping they can reach those who may have come into contact with him.
“I would love for anyone who knew Shaw if they think of people he hung out with, call the police,” said Bowman.
All it takes, investigator Bowman says, is for the right person to see that video, recognize that man, and to help bring Shaw’s family closer to justice.
“They deserve an answer of why James was killed that evening,” said Bowman.
