Two women were flown by Mercy Flight to the hospital after a car crashed into a tree off Route 21 in Naples Tuesday morning.

Deputies were called to Route 21 near Strong Hill Road just after 4 a.m. for the crash.

At the scene, first responders found a Suzuki sedan had gone off the north side of the road and into a tree.

The driver, 55-year-old Galdys Sykes, had to be removed by firefighters from the vehicle. Deputies say Sykes and passenger 40-year-old Natalie Rivers both sustained head injuries as a result of the crash.

Both women were rushed by ambulance and then later airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Route 21 was closed between Eelpot Road and Main Street for some time as deputies investigated. Deputies say it appears neither woman was wearing a seat belt.
