Trump’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy infuriates local demonstrators

Local News

The discussion of illegal immigration continues: A local group rallied Friday morning outside the Rochester Federal Building.

Demonstrators tell News 8, the current political climate could lead to more incidents like the one that lead to the death of Selena Hidalgo-Calderon.

One-by-one, protestors gave speeches over a megaphone while others held signs, some that read “Human beings can not be illegal.” Several read letters written by immigrant farmers.

Event organizer, Iman Abid tells News 8 many immigrant workers on farms worry about their safety and mostly their children.

“It just doesn’t just happen near the Mexican border, it just doesn’t happen in San Diego. It happens here too. This a place a lot of people choose to live in. They just want to feel safe and they are being negatively impacted by the system, ” Abid said.

Although there weren’t any immigrants at the rally, their voices were still heard.
