There was a lot of lightning as storms rolled through the Rochester area Friday afternoon.
One bolt even struck a truck on Route 390, taking the driver by surprise.
Carl Wayne says he was on his way home from work when he saw the flash and heard the bang that went along with it. He looked in his rear-view mirror and saw a column of black smoke, thinking somebody else was struck.
That’s when his truck shut down.
“I realized I had nothing in the truck. Absolutely nothing worked. No lights, no brakes, no steering, no nothing. I pulled off to the side of the road,” said Wayne. “I’m still kind of shaken.”
Wayne’s truck now has a missing antenna where the lightning struck, and a flat tire where the current returned to the ground. Everything electrical shut down as well, but he says he’s just lucky it wasn’t worse.
