Troopers have released the identity of the elderly woman found dead after a large fire at a home in Marion.
Investigators say 80-year-old Beatrice Murray was the woman who was trapped inside the home during the large fire. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
The body of an elderly woman has been found after a large fire broke out Monday afternoon in Marion.
First responders were called to a home on Cory Corners Road around 1:10 p.m. for the blaze. Family members told police they went out to get something to eat and returned to the house on fire.
At the scene, troopers say they found heavy fire coming from the home. Initial calls for the fire reported a person was trapped inside. But, troopers say, by the time they got to the home, the flames were too intense to go inside.
Complicating firefighting efforts, crews say a vehicle was involved in the fire and power lines were knocked down as well.
The home is considered a total loss. Investigators are now working to determine what caused the blaze.
Troopers have not yet released the victim’s name. Investigators expect to release further information about the case Tuesday after an autopsy is completed.
The fire was the second significant fire in Wayne County on Monday. Crews battled for hours to knock down another fire in Williamson on Ridge Road Monday morning.
Thankfully, everyone was able to make it out of that fire safely.
The cause of that fire is also being investigated.
