Georgia-based Flowers Foods, Inc., is voluntarily recalling several brands of Swiss Rolls from stores nationwide due to the potential presence of salmonella in the whey powder.

Flowers is recalling Swiss Rolls sold under the brand names Great Value, Mrs. Freshley’s, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker’s Treat, and Market Square.

These items were distributed nationwide and can be found locally at Walmart.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The affected Swiss Rolls contain best-by dates on or between Sept. 17 and Oct. 19.

Affected product should be discarded or may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumers with questions may call Flowers’ Consumer Relations Center at 1-866-245-8921.
