State Police release name of trooper seriously injured during traffic stop

UPDATE:

The New York State Police say Trooper Craig Foglia was seriously injured following an accident that occurred on I-86 in Campbell on Wednesday.

Police say Trooper Foglia had conducted a traffic stop around 4:30 p.m. and was sitting in his vehicle when he was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 driven by Kenneth Aukett of Westmont, NJ.

Foglia’s patrol car then struck the vehicle which he had stopped.

Aukett was transported to Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre, PA with non-life threatening injuries.

Foglia was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. He is currently in guarded condition.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

A New York State Trooper suffers serious injuries after his patrol car was struck by another vehicle during a traffic stop in the Town of Campbell in Steuben County Wednesday.

According to police, the trooper was inside his patrol vehicle when it was struck.

He was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The identity of the trooper has not been released.

Traffic in both the east and westbound lanes of I-86 were closed off, sending traffic to side roads. The westbound lane of I-86 remained closed for several hours.
