Sleet and freezing rain this evening change over to plain rain tonight for a few hours, before temperatures drop again.
Snow developed on schedule shortly before sunrise and has picked up, as expected, this morning. Most of the area picked up 3-6″ of snow before the changeover to sleet and freezing rain.
The freezing rain and sleet on top of the snow this morning have made the roads sloppy and slippery, and we’ll continue with this icy mix into the evening commute.
The freezing rain producing that glaze will change over to rain after the evening commute and around sunset, and then, rain quickly changes back over to snow overnight and early Wednesday.
Prepare for changeable road conditions, and some periods of slick and dangerous driving, especially if you’re out and about. Remember, secondary, untreated, and elevated road surfaces will be the most treacherous through the day today.
Then, winds pick up tonight and especially Wednesday, with some gusts 40-45 mph, especially Rochester and points west. Power outages aren’t expected, but it’ll help to blow some fresh snow around that falls tomorrow.
