ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — The Monroe County Heroin Task Force says it is making some progress in the fight against the opioid epidemic.
The department says new numbers show overdoses have fallen year-to-year in Monroe County.
Last month, the task force says its preliminary data showed there were 36 reported overdoses with four deaths. In April 2018, the department reported 94 reported overdoses with 12 deaths.
Deputy Sheriff Michael Favata attributes the decrease to the use of Narcan, the opioid antidote, along with a great deal of teamwork.
“Narcan is a big part of this,” says Favata. “But you look at how many people, collectively, not just the sheriff’s task force, but all out partners.”
