A group of senior citizens got an in-depth look at what it’s like to be a member of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Sixty seniors were presented with a certificate Thursday after graduating from a special 8-week academy program.
During that time, the group learned about the operations of the sheriff’s office and toured a number of its facilities — something they say gave them a new appreciation for what deputies do.
“I had a good appreciation for the sheriff’s, but seeing what they go through and hearing all the preparation and everything they go through, it was just amazing,” Marge Ballister, a senior citizen police academy graduate said. “God bless them all.”
The seniors were exposed to training with the mounted police, K-9, and diving units.
