Seneca Park Zoo welcomed two new Snow Leopard cubs on Monday.
The cubs were born on Memorial Day to first-time mom Timila. Timila gave birth to her first cub, a male, in her outdoor habitat before entering her maternity den to give birth to her second cub.
In a statement, the Zoo said the first-born cub “appears strong and healthy, [but] will face a difficult road ahead.” Staff are concerned that Timila abandoned him to go inside for the birth of her second cub, but plan to return him to his mother over the next few days.
Timila remains in her maternity den with her second-born and appears to be attentively caring for that cub. The Zoo plans to keep the public updated on any progress made by Timila and the two new Snow Leopard cubs.
