RPD: Driver fled from police, T-boned state trooper

A chase in Rochester early Friday morning ended with a suspect crashing into a state trooper cruiser.

According to the Rochester Police Department, It started around 3:30 a.m. at the at the intersection of Chestnut Street and East Avenue.

Rochester police officers attempted to stop a SUV, but police say the driver, 52-year-old Ozelle Vickers, took off. Troopers spotted the SUV a short time later, kicking off a brief chase.

The chase ended when the SUV T-boned a trooper cruiser on State Street, right outside the Holiday Inn.

The two troopers inside were not injured. Vickers was taken into custody. Troopers say he was combative the entire time.

Vickers was arrested for reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, criminal mischief, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.

He is being held in Monroe County Jail; he will appear in court Saturday morning.
