Route 531 is back open after a large field fire on Monday closed traffic in both directions.
The roadway was closed along with Colby Street in Ogden for the blaze. Fire crews say the owner of Colby Farms was on a tractor when it caught fire Monday afternoon. He wasn’t hurt, but the fire spread across the field, creating a huge plume of smoke.

Crews initially shut down Colby Street to battle the blaze, but eventually had to shut down Route 531 as well, as the smoke blew across the roadway and flames licked at the road’s shoulder.
The fire burned for at least an hour before it was declared under control, destroying ten acres of land and the tractor. The farm’s owner says the tractor alone cost nearly a half million dollars.
It’s not yet clear if the first started with the tractor or a different source.
As of 1:45 p.m., Colby Street remained closed.
