A Romulus man is facing charges after deputies say he trapped his neighbor’s dog in a steel enclosed box for eight hours.

Fifty-nine-year-old Jeffrey Vanhorn is charged with torturing an animal.

Deputies say the dog, a two-year-old black lab mix, was held in the box for eight hours while temperatures were above 90 degrees before being freed. Its condition was not released by deputies.

Vanhorn was issued an appearance ticket; he will answer charges later this month in Town of Romulus Court.
