Rochester unveils new solar field

Local News

A brand new solar field with more than 7,800 solar panels was unveiled in Rochester on Wednesday.

Located at the former Emerson Street landfill, it will help power City Hall and divert more than 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in its first year of operation.

“This 2.6 megawatt project is one of the largest solar projects to date in New York State on a landfill and will provide a measurable environmental benefit to future generations to come,” said Nathan Rizzo, of Solar Liberty.

The solar field will move the city closer to the goals laid out in its Climate Action Plan and Energy Plan.
