Rochester third grader gets lift to school from firefighters

Local News

A Rochester City School District student ditched the yellow school bus for a big red fire truck on Tuesday.

Third grader Nayeli Rivera got a ride to School 35 from her friends at the Rochester Fire Department. That was her prize for winning Prevention First’s Home Fire Drill Contest.

Former Rochester firefighter and Prevention First Vice President Robert Crandall says kids have great ideas when it comes to fire safety and prevention.

Crandall says, “It comes from them. They have experiences. They see things in the media. They have concerns about safety.”

Prevention First holds the poster contest every year.
