Rochester prepares to say goodbye to Congresswoman Louise Slaughter

Louise Slaughter was a champion not just of the University of Rochester, but of the arts. It’s only fitting her funeral take place at the home of the Eastman School of Music, Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theater. 

Dean Jamal Rossi says they are expecting close to 3,000 people. The service is open to the public.

“When they arrive they will need to obtain a ticket and with that ticket they will be able to get into the theater,” Rossi said. 

Tickets will be available at the East Main Street entrance. It’s first come first serve. Rossi tells News 8, security will be ramped up. 

“They should be prepared to show an ID. Be prepared to have bags check and mostly they need to bring patience,” Rossi said. 

Former President Bill Clinton will be there, along with former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton. Mrs. Clinton will speak along with US Representatives John Lewis and Nancy Pelosi. Dozens of politicians from around the country are expected to attend. 

Governor Andrew Cuomo will not be in attendance, but paid his respects Thursday night during calling hours. 

Like so many, he says he will miss his dear friend.

The funeral service will begin Friday at 11:00 a.m. There will be an overflow of seating in Kilbourn and Hatch Halls– where the funeral will be simulcasted. You can watch our live stream here

Swan Street and Gibbs Street will be closed to traffic starting at 3a.m. and East Main Starting at 7:30a.m. Parking will be free at the East End garage.
