Local News

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — Rochester police officers are heading to New Jersey for the 2019 Police Unity Tour.

It’s a four-day bike ride from New Jersey to Washington, D.C.

The tour honors law enforcement officers who have faithfully served the public. It also serves a reminder of their ultimate sacrifice.

“It is important to all of the riders to remember our fellow officers made the supreme sacrifice and died in the line of duty,” said Lynde Johnston, retired Rochester police captain.

The tour began in 1997 with only 18 participants. This year, close to 3,000 people will participate. The tour will end in Washington.
