The incident in Vegas being described by many as “unbelievable”. It’s a tragedy that continues to unfold and for those who live there, it’s a nightmare that turned into reality before their very eyes.
Karen Kent-Chirdo, a Rochester native, now lives in Vegas with family. She said Vegas changed from a vibrant city to one that’s numb and filled with sorrow. Normally, there’s people out mowing their lawns and sounds of laughter, but today, it was replaced with the sounds of sirens and emergency personnel. Kent-Chirdo lives about fifteen minutes from the country concert venue and the evidence of the shooting’s aftermath has spread throughout the area.
“It was unbelievable. And then now to find out that my kids have friends there that passed… it’s hitting really close to home. You just don’t really think that can happen where you live. But it does and it did,” she explained.
Kent-Chirdo lives across the street from a hospital in Vegas and says people, cars, and ambulances have been constantly pouring in and out. Blood is also needed at hospitals, so Kent-Chirdo and her friends have donated blood today and are encouraging others to do so.
She’s also collecting cell phones to give to victims who need to talk to their loved ones.
