The Rochester Arson Task Force has arrested a man for a fire on North Clinton Avenue. The fire occurred at a multi-mixed-unit building on April 8 as a result of a tampered gas line.
The Fire Department says they responded to the building around 6:57 a.m. on April 8 for an EMS call with a natural gas leak inside the building.
Fire crews immediately shut down the flow of natural gas to prevent an explosion. Investigators later determined the fire was the result of an intentional act.
The resulting fire damaged the building. No injuries were reported and nobody was displaced.
The Arson Task Force further investigated and determined that Smith had intentionally caused the fire, specifically inside his apartment, with his natural gas cooking stove flex gas line.
Smith is currently in the Monroe County Jail awaiting his arraignment.
