Rochester area has some of the most unequal school funding, says Cuomo

Local News

In his State of the State address on Tuesday, Governmor Cuomo addressed the disparity of funding in many New York State schools.

He said the Rochester area was one of the worst, somtimes pushing an $8,000 difference in the anual funding per student in wealthier schools, compared to schools in low income areas.

New York’s education spending budget will reach a record $27.7 Billion this year, and Cuomo wants that money to be spent fairly.

He says the new budget will use an education equity formula to make sure the schools that need the funding most will get it.
