The clock is ticking as the City of Rochester must present ideas for ROC the Riverway project. It’s the revitalization of the Genesee Riverfront. New York State is pitching in $50 million to jumpstart the project.
The Genesee River runs through the City of Rochester. Locals like Karen Smith tell News 8 it’s underutilized.
“It would be nice to see trendy restaurants or just outdoor spaces as well, since there aren’t any parts specifically downtown,” Smith said.
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, CEO Bob Duffy posted Monday morning on social media that he would like to see ROC the Riverway mirror Chicago’s Riverwalk. Duffy hopes state funding will be a draw for investors.
“I had a meeting here this morning with one of the hotel owners they have some very exciting things going on, on their own property and you’re going to see private development be a big part of this,” Duffy said.
A public meeting is planned for May 1 at 4p.m. The location is still to be determined. Recommendations from the advisory board are due May 31.
