Passengers with hearing impairments will be better accommodated at the Greater Rochester International Airport.
Monroe County officials unveiled on Wednesday new enhanced communications technology to help passengers. This includes smart color-coded LED lighting to promote visual cuing for all passengers in the gate area which will alert them to important messages such as boarding announcements or emergency notifications.
In addition, there will be terminal-wide hearing loops and counter loops installed at key locations.
“They’ll be able to connect to the hearing loop that we have in the terminal with the help of their hearing aid and they will connect through a T-coil system to hear information more clearly and directly into their hearing aid or their hearing device,” said Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo.
The upgrades are part of the ongoing ROC renovation project which is scheduled to be completed in October of this year.
