Dozens of jobs are coming to the Rochester area.
The “IDEX Health and Science Optics Center of Excellence” had a ribbon-cutting for its new facility in Henrietta.
The state is pitching in $2.4 million in funding. The funding will be key in attracting jobs to the area from all over the country. Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul was here Monday for the announcement.
“We’re competing with the rest of the country,” she explained. “They have operations in Chicago and California but we think it was smart to say we’re not going to give you money on the front end but we’ll give you money for the jobs you bring and retain and that’s what we did.”
The IDEX CEO says they chose to expand here because of the history of optics technology, the universities and the talented workforce.
