A Mendon man is facing charges of manslaughter for the death of a fellow hunter in Quebec this past weekend.

According to The Canadian Press, 50-year-old John Tompkins was arrested Monday in the case and released on bail.

Police tell the Canadian wire service they were notified at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday of the death of 54-year-old Todd Herrington in the Town of Bearn in Western Quebec.

However, at this time, it’s not clear what led up to Herrington’s death.

Tompkins is also charged with criminal negligence causing death and negligent use of a firearm.

He’s expected to return to court in August.
