The next United States census will take place in 2020, and the League of Women Voters in Rochester is making sure everyone knows about.
Monday night, they helped host a conversation on the census at Asbury First United Methodist Church on East Avenue.
The census helps determine the number of seats in the House of Representatives, any federal assistance that comes to the city, and it important for determining support for businesses and other community services.
The league says it also helps businesses know where to locate.
“Often times I hear that such and such will never come to Rochester because they just don’t have enough population,” says Ann Carmody. “So it’s really important just from a democracy standpoint but also for a social justice point of view and then business.”
We’re told an office will eventually be set up in Rochester for people to go learn more about how they can contribute.
