The heavy rain contributed to a garage collapsing in Rochester Monday morning.
Firefighters were called to North Union Street, near the Public Market, just before noon. The roof collapsed from the weight of the water which caused the walls to cave in, firefighters said.
Firefighters say the building is not stable.
“This is still a public safety issue,” Battalion Chief Mike Dupra said. “There are still parts of the building that are ready to fall. So I have a feeling this is headed towards demolition.”
Several cars inside the garage were damaged. Nobody was hurt.
Firefighters said the area near the garage is usually bustling with people walking by. Thankfully the rain kept them inside Monday.
