While the Port of Rochester seems to have it all, the area is not the tourist destination many were hoping it would be. The City of Rochester is looking to change that.
For Agathi Georgiou and Zachary Graham, Friday was a celebration. Georgiou and Graham’s new wedding venue, Arbor at the Port, officially opened at Port of Rochester with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“The entrepreneurs in both of said this made all the sense in the world, growing and developing something in this area,” Georgiou said.
The city of Rochester has struck up a partnership with them, hopeful they will grow their business and others around them.
It’s no secret that the area historically hasn’t had a lot of foot traffic, especially lately
Even with scenic views of the lake shore, a marina and several restaurants and bars, businesses have come and gone.
Still Dana Miller with the city said he’s hopeful this venture and others will turn that around.
“Jenny at the Port, soon Bill Grays will be joining them,” Miller said of some of the businesses.
Georgiou said she’s hopeful, too.
“With the ups and downs in the past, I feel like it’s going in the right direction and it has re-vitalized itself,” Georgiou said. “We’re just in the cusp of doing that along with this area.”
A group called the Community Development Committee plans to add more transportation options to and from the area to attract more business. Officials said plans are in the early stages.
