Police officers help the community understand bike safety

Local News

The Irondequoit Police Department partnered up with the office of public safety Saturday- holding an event to help the community ensure they’re doing everything to stay safe on their bikes.

The free event included an obstacle course to get people more comfortable on their bikes and different stations to check brakes and tires.

Officers also wanted to check to make sure helmets are fitting correctly. Something they say is a big problem among children.

“That’s one of the big things, children wear their helmets, they just don’t wear them correctly. They don’t wear it to the correct tightness to help protect them if they do happen to fall,” says officer Jonathan Lawton.

The event also included refreshments and special bike raffles.
