Penn Yan bar owner pleads guilty in sex abuse case

Local News

The owner of a bar in Penn Yan, arrested after a disturbing video posted on social media last year appeared to show him sexually assault a passed out woman, has pleaded guilty to charges.

Bob Champlin pleaded guilty Wednesday morning in the case. He faces up to three years in prison and ten years of post-release supervision for two counts of sex abuse.

A video from Christmas Day 2017 showed Champlin assaulting the victim at his bar. He was also accused of assaulting another woman hours later.

Along with the prison sentence, prosecutors say Champlin will be forced to register as a sex offender and undergo HIV testing.

Orders of protection have been issued for the victims in the case.

Champlin will be officially sentenced on March 5. He has waived his right to appeal.
