Oxygen bottles burst out of home during fire in Rochester

Local News

Oxygen tanks were sent flying by a fire in Rochester Tuesday morning, firefighters report.

Flames broke out, starting with a chair that caught fire, just after 10:30 a.m. on Oak Hill View Drive on Rochester’s south side.

As the fire burned, fire crews say oxygen bottles caught fire, exploded and actually flew out of the house, hitting neighboring homes and cars. Firefighters were forced retreat from the home, before attacking the fire.

One person was home at the time of the fire; they were treated by ambulance workers for smoke inhalation. A firefighter was also hurt during the blaze.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause. The Red Cross is assisting the resident.
