Ontario County Sheriff Philip C. Povero is urging boaters to observe caution while operating watercraft on Canandaigua Lake due to floating debris caused by intense rainstorms in the past 24 hours.
Sheriff Povero says boaters are urged to operate their vessels at no more than 5 miles per hour within 200 feet of shore on Canandaigua Lake.
Deputies of the Sheriff’s Marine and Recreational Vehicle Unit are currently patrolling Canandaigua Lake. Officers are confirming debris below the surface, primarily tree limbs and logs that present a danger if struck by a boat.
Boaters are urged to observe reduced speeds as the lake is also very murky due to run off from the recent rains and are also urged to wear personal flotation devices at all times.
