One of the last surviving paratroopers of D-Day passes away; John Cipolla of Greece was 95

World War II veteran John Cipolla of Greece, who jumped into Normandy on D-Day and fought across Europe to Hitler’s resort in the Alps, has passed away. 

Mr. Cipolla was one of about 1000 original paratroopers who took part in D-Day.  He jumped again into Holland during Operation Market Garden and fought across Europe to Hitler’s resort in the Alps.  Mr. Cipolla was wounded three times during World War II.  He was an active participant in local WWII memorials, supported Honor Flight Rochester, and was honored by The Greatest Generations Foundation.  He was interviewed by News 8 in 2014, when he and other local veterans visited Europe for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Cipolla’s passed away September 12. He was 95 years old.
