LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) - On Tuesday morning, first responders in Lewiston headed to the Lower Niagara River after a kayak capsized near the sand docks.
A 76-year-old man ended up in the water.
But when officials got to the scene, three fishermen were able to secure the man. The Rochester Fire Department says Captain Scott Daly and firefighter Rich Brongo were fishing nearby when the man went into the water.
The off-duty firefighters helped Lewiston police get the man out and back to shore.
The 76-year-old was brought to an ambulance crew, treated and released.
