An accident in the Town of Hopewell Friday afternoon resulted in one person being flown to the hospital.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Smith Road and County Road 46.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says it appears a vehicle traveling north on Smith Road, ran a stop sign and struck a vehicle heading west on County Road 46.
The vehicle that ran the stop sign was operated by Rebecca Laursen-Castner, 41, of Penn Yann. The car that was struck was being driven by Joshua Shaver, 35, of Canandaigua.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Shaver needed to be extricated by members of the Hopewell Fire Department. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via Mercy Flight with serious injuries, including a head injury.
Laursen-Castner was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be evaluated for chest and wrist pain.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing, but at this time, alcohol or drug use does not appear to be a factor. No tickets have been issued at this time. The highway was was closed for approximately two hours.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to the Corrections Division. He had just completed a shift at the Ontario County Jail.
