A lot of local schools hosted special guests Thursday for “World Read Aloud Day.”
We were at School 33 in Rochester where our own Maureen McGuire read to students.
Firefighters, police officers and other community members also took part. Many say this is the highlight of their job.
“It’s such a joy to see them, to see their faces light up,” says Undersheriff Korey Brown, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. “Just to give them a positive interaction with law enforcement and other people in the community. It’s great to take time out of the day, read to students, answer their questions. Their questions are so interesting. “
World Read Aloud Day is celebrated in 100 countries.
