The local office of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service was a busy place on April 12th, 1963! There was plenty of paper on the desks and of course, not a computer in sight. According to the News 8 Archives on that day alone IRS workers at the downtownr Rochester office helped 400 people process their returns and took another 450 phone calls. The deadline to file federal tax returns was fixed on March 1st, way back in 1913. It was moved to March 15th in 1918 and then to April 15th in 1955, where it has remained ever since.
