A study from the personal finance site WalletHub found that New York has one of the highest tax rates in the country.
New York came in at number 48, out of 51 states and Washington, D.C. in the “2019 Tax Rates by State” study. According to WalltHub the only states with tax rates higher than New York are Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Illinois.
The state with the lowest tax rate is Alaska. The study also found that New York has the fifth highest gas taxes per gallon and is tied with Connecticut for the highest cigarette tax rates.
