A new local initiative is working to highlight black men who have made a positive impact on the Rochester community.
Rochester Black Men Achieve (Roc BMA) is launching the new awards recognition program.
Everyone in the Rochester community will be able to go online to choose nominees. The winners will then be chosen by members of Black Men Achieve.
Organizers say, despite the accomplishments, black men often feel invisible.
“We have a lot of men in the community doing positive things, helping our youth, working to uplift our community, but they go unnoticed,” said Jermayne Myers, president of Roc BMA.
The awards will be presented at a gala event on Jan. 20 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
