A foul smell in Perinton is not getting better, according to people living near the high acres landfill.
The state DEC gave Waste Management, which owns the landfill, until the end of April to complete several projects to reduce the rotten egg smell. But, neighbors say, it hasn’t happened. Now a grassroots group says they are smelling something other than hydrogen sulfide — which is what the town is monitoring.
In a statement on Friday, the grassroots group, Fresh Air for the Eastside, is now calling for an end to landfill activity in Perinton.
We have reached out to Waste Management for comment and have not yet heard back. In the past, officials have said it is working to alleviate the odor issues.
