A group of 500 students from the Rochester City School District had a chance to get some cool jewelry for their moms ahead of Mother’s Day.

This year marks the 6th Annual Mother’s Day Jewelry Shop event that recognizes students’ efforts in school and allows those who reached certain attendance and behavioral goals to pick out a special gift for their moms.
Students selected a Mother’s Day gift from among hundreds of pieces of donated, gently-used costume jewelry.
“I think a lot of families in this city are not as financially well off and some children may not have a way to purchase a Mother’s Day gift for their moms,” said Erica Stanat, co-chair of the Mother’s Day Jewelry Shop program. “So this is a nice way for us to help support them and for us to recognize their great efforts in school.”
The kids also got to make a card for their moms.
The Mother’s Day Jewelry Shop program has provided nearly 3,000 Mother’s Day gifts to local students since 2012.
