Assemblyman Joe Morelle is calling for an update on Frontier Field lease negotiations from Monroe County and the Red Wings.
Morelle sent a letter to Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and Rochester Red Wings President and CEO Naomi Silver Thursday morning.
The letter requests and update on the status of their negotiations. Silver revealed on Saturday that the 10-year lease agreement set back in August still has not been set in stone. She says the team has been operating on a month-to-month lease.
In his letter, Morelle writes, “It is unsettling that, five months later, only 33 days until players report for spring training, no long-term lease has been signed.”
Morelle has offered to help facilitate a long-term lease agreement between the county and the team.
In a statement, a county spokesperson said negotiations are moving forward swiftly. “At the request of the team’s attorneys, Monroe County yesterday sent an updated draft of a new long-term lease for the team’s final review. The proposed lease is the product of joint negotiations and reinforces the County’s commitment to keeping the Red Wings in Rochester for years to come. The County eagerly awaits the team’s response.”
